Champagne Guy Méa (Domaine Mea) is a family run grower estate located in the Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages of Louvois and Bouzy in the Montagne de Reims. Beginning in the 1920s with Henri Méa, who first cultivated vines in Louvois, followed by his son Guy, who began bottling his own Champagne in 1950, long before “grower Champagne” became popular. Today, the estate spans about seven hectares of vineyards across Louvois, Bouzy, and Valée de l’Ardre, and remains as one of the houses to produce every cuvée entirely from its own grapes - hence the “grower Champagne” label. It’s now led by Guy’s granddaughter, Sophie Milesi, who took over winemaking duties from her parents, Evelyne Méa and Jean-Louis Milesi, continuing the family’s tradition while steering it into a new, more conscientious era.
What sets Champagne Guy Méa apart? Well, its balance of history and innovation. Sophie, working alongside her husband, Franck Moussié, who hails from Bordeaux, has moved the domaine toward fully sustainable viticulture: no herbicides, coupled with the use of mechanical weeding, cover crops, and individual vinification of each parcel. This precision allows her to highlight the nuanced terroirs of the Montagne de Reims, where Pinot Noir reigns but Chardonnay plays a critical supporting role. Fermentations occur in both stainless steel and oak barrels, and the wines are given extended lees aging, yielding Champagnes with both texture and freshness, a sure sign of meticulous, grower driven production.
The resulting wines reflect both the power of Bouzy’s Pinot Noir and the finesse of Louvois’ chalky soils. L’Assemblage, their flagship Premier Cru cuvée, shows that blend beautifully - ripe orchard fruit and biscuit tones lifted by bright acidity and chalky precision. But beyond what’s in that tasty glass, Champagne Guy Méa represents a generational bridge - Sophie’s approach respects the legacy of her grandfather while embracing the transparency and sustainability that define the exciting new wave of Champagne growers. It’s that combination of authenticity, stewardship, and quiet evolution that makes Guy Méa one of the most refreshing small producers in Champagne today.
